Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal

Project overview

The Victorian Government has committed $2.4 billion to remove 20 level crossings by 2018 as part of a longer term plan to ease congestion and improve safety on Melbourne’s roads and rail, with a dedicated Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA) established to deliver the program and ensure each project is delivered in a coordinated and efficient way.

One of the core projects to meet this target is the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project which will remove nine level crossings and rebuild five railway stations.

Recycled products achieve sustainable outcomes 

Congratulations to LXRA for winning the 2017 Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) Sustainability Award for Organisational Leadership.

Green Roads by Alex Fraser is proud to supply LXRA recycled construction products for some of their projects, including the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project.

The consortium of Level Crossing Removal Authority, Lendlease, CPB Contractors, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, Aurecon, and Metro Trains Melbourne appointed to deliver the project selected Alex Fraser to supply 50,000 tonnes of Class 4, Class 3 and Class 2 recycled crushed concrete.

“This major project is an example of an increasing focus on sustainable outcomes on government infrastructure works,”  Recycling General Manager Sean McCormick said.

Alex Fraser is pleased to be able to supply recycled products that align with sustainability objectives to the benefit of the project owner and the broader community.

Cost and carbon savings 

Choosing Green Roads by Alex Fraser materials for the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project reduced landfill by 50,000 tonnes. And because recycled road base is lighter than virgin material, truck movements were reduced by 148.

Using recycled crushed concrete preserved 54,000 tonnes of natural resources and the project overall saved 326 tonnes of carbon emissions.
