Global Sustainability Commitments Guide Hanson’s New National Policy

October 21, 2020

Earlier this month, Hanson launched its new Sustainability Policy, in alignment with HeidelbergCement’s Sustainability Commitments 2030. These commitments set out the global direction for the entire HeidelbergCement Group of Companies, drawing on the core principles of its future sustainability strategy.

This strategy draws on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, protect the planet and to encourage peace and prosperity across the world by 2030. These integrated goals are designed to work together and achieve a balance of social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Nationally, Hanson sites are striving to ensure that their operations meet the highest environmental standards. This includes the use of recycled water, rehabilitation initiatives, air quality control, and design of low impact products to reduce our carbon footprint.

The Group’s Sustainability Manager Brendan Liveris says Hanson’s Sustainability Policy recognises the importance of reducing CO2 in its products, and that this must be the key focus for the entire construction industry.

“Driving the circular economy and finding a second use for waste materials through recycling or upcycling is another key plank in supporting a sustainable construction industry. This is core business for our Alex Fraser Recycling operations where a range of materials are diverted from waste and recycled to build greener infrastructure and drive circular economic growth,” said Brendan.

“The introduction of the Group’s Sustainability Policy represents an exciting step for Hanson. It calls for contributions from all corners of the business to realise our goals that will benefit the environment, our communities, the economy, our people and our business.”
