Green Roads Asphalt mixes contain up to 50% recycled content, including combinations of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), recycled glass sand and recycled plastics. Our warm mix technology further lowers the carbon emissions of Green Roads asphalt by up to 40%, ranking our asphalt production as the greenest in the industry.
Green Roads Asphalt mixes meet VicRoads specification 407, with approval for the inclusion of recycled asphalt, glass and plastics in various mixes. Our asphalt plants produce approximately 300 tonnes per hour and are equipped to store more than 600 tonnes of hot asphalt.
Millions of tonnes of Green Roads Asphalt mixes have been produced to build greener roads throughout Melbourne and surrounding regions.

Hot or warm mix asphalt, incorporating up to 50% of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP). Green Roads Asphalt has been demonstrated to reduce project carbon emissions by *up to 65%.
PolyPave Asphalt is available in hot or warm mix asphalt. It incorporates recycled, high-density polyethylene hard plastic (HDPE) such as shampoo bottles, ice-cream containers, milk bottles and Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP).
The use of recycled HDPE plastics in PolyPave is proven to increase the durability, tensile strength, rut resistance and longevity of the pavement.
Warm or cool mix asphalt containing high volumes of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and Recycled Glass Sand (RGS) sourced locally from the millions of glass jars and bottles recovered through residents’ kerbside collections. The use of Glassphalt Asphalt can achieve carbon savings of *up to 65%, recycles a local waste problem material and preserves natural resources.
Mix Type | Recycled Content % | Description |
---|---|---|
20 Type SF | 50% | A fatigue resistant size 20 structural base course asphalt for heavy duty asphalt pavements with a total asphalt thickness (excluding Open Graded Asphalt) of at least 175 mm. |
20 Type SI | 40% | A multi-purpose size 20 structural asphalt for intermediate course in heavy duty pavements or base course in medium duty pavements. |
20 Type SS | 40% | A very stiff size 20 structural intermediate course asphalt used to increase pavement deformation resistance and increase mix stiffness for very large-scale heavy-duty asphalt pavements. |
14 Type V | 15% | A heavy-duty size 14mm asphalt wearing course for heavily trafficked intersections |
14 Type H | 20% | A heavy-duty size 14mm asphalt wearing course or regulating course for use in most heavily trafficked pavements |
14 Type N | 30% | A light to medium-duty size 14mm wearing course or regulating course for use in light to moderately trafficked pavements |
10 Type N / L | 30% | A light to medium-duty size 10mm wearing course or regulating course for use in light to moderately trafficked pavements |
10 Type N / L (Poly Pave) | 30% | A light to medium-duty size 10mm wearing course or regulating course for use in light to moderately trafficked pavements |
14 Type N (Poly Pave) | 30% | A light to medium-duty size 14mm wearing course or regulating course for use in light to moderately trafficked pavements |
In 2019 Alex Fraser supplied the equivalent of 190 million glass bottles for the Western Roads Upgrade in roadbase and asphalt, diverting 264,800 tonnes from landfill.
