Supporting local schools

Alex Fraser’s Clarinda Recycling Facility has been a long term supporter of Noble Park Secondary College, so when the students set out to create its own Japanese Garden, Alex Fraser delivered.

The school’s Year 10 students are undertaking project-based learning through their ‘Work Ready Program’. This hands-on approach gives students the opportunity to build their knowledge through real-life experiences and challenges.

Assistant Principal Helen Karagounis reached out to Alex Fraser to support the students’ initiative late last year. She said both staff and students were thrilled with how the project turned out, and the school appreciated the support from local businesses.

“The students, teachers and Principal are very excited at the prospect of having another space to share and enjoy. We would like to extend our gratitude to Alex Fraser for their support.”

The transformation of the new tranquil garden is complete.

Students were involved in all elements of the learning experience including planning and designing the space. They worked diligently to complete the project, shovelling truckloads of materials, compacting, paving and planting out the new area.

The new garden opened earlier this year providing a special space that VCE students can use to unwind and practice mindful reflection while at school, which is especially important at this challenge time in their schooling.

Sales Manager Jason Walsh said that Alex Fraser’s Clarinda site had supported Noble Park Secondary College over the years by helping build other community gardens, paths and recreation spaces paths.

“It’s a great feeling to know we’ve helped local young people in our community to build something special for their school community.”
