Alex Fraser’s Sustainable Asphalt Plant for Melbourne’s North is underway, with the build of a new asphalt plant taking shape at its Epping Recycling Facility.

Alex Fraser Asphalt GM Brendan Camilleri said this new Asphalt Plant would be ideally placed to supply the growth corridor in Melbourne’s north with sustainable asphalt.

“The new plant is capable of producing high volumes of our Green Roads asphalt products.”

Epping Asphalt Senior Project Manager Akshay Kumar and Project Manager Kate Lynch planning the plant’s 2022 launch.

“We expect it will be a welcome addition to the construction market north of Melbourne; helping our customers to achieve better sustainability outcomes on major infrastructure projects, like the Northern Roads upgrade, and local roads and maintenance works,” said Camilleri.

Alex Fraser Project Manager Akshay Kumar said the preliminary works were progressing well, with permits approved and civil and earthworks slated to begin in November 2021.

“Recognising Alex Fraser’s constant focus on safety and sustainability, the new plant complies with our stringent environmental controls and our safety requirements, including guarding,” said Kumar.

This state-of-the-art Benninghoven ECO 3000 240tph batch plant will have capacity to produce more than 300,000 tonnes of sustainable asphalt per annum, incorporating up to 50 per cent recycled content.

The first shipment of the modular plant is expected to arrive from Germany in March 2022. Installation to be managed by Alex Fraser’s Projects Team, with local Benninghoven engineers completing the fit out.

It is anticipated that Alex Fraser’s Epping Asphalt Plant will be commissioned in late 2022.
